Wattle Fence
Wattle you say. Yes, wattle. As in wattle fence. As in gardening. I have been thinking for the past week how to keep the chickens out of the garden beds yet let the ducks due their job of eating slugs and slithery things and still create my cottage garden, even if it’s partially with raised beds. Wattle is what I found.
I woke up at 4:30 a.m. with this fencing on my mind. NO MORE chicken wire is my ultimate goal. DH talked of fencing off the whole garden with a chicken wire fence. I’ve decided against it. Besides, five acres of trees, I’m sure to get all the poles and limbs I need for the wattle fencing.
It may not come out looking just like this, as I am now thinking to make sections that fit nicely into each raised bed…so a bow saw, pruners, hammer and some skinny little nails will be used this weekend. Now where are my wellies?
Hey Sherrill — you’re in for the tote-along! Nice blog. I loved your Hourglass, and I finished mine just before you posted, or I *so* would have done a roll-neck version. (Next time!) Take care!
Cool, your in the tote-along now too! That fence will be really good. I like that natural fencing.
I waddle, does that count? Ha ha. The fence will be beautiful. Talk with you later. hp
very nice…my ducks loved to tear all my plants to shreds.
That is so interesting Sherrill. We are planning on getting a few chickens in the not to far future, but I also have a cottage garden plus quite few veg that I plant in-between, so I am quite keen to learn more. So chickens can’t get over that low fence? Why is that? Can’t they ‘hop’ over? It would be so good to get away without chicken wire…
Wow what a great idea for a fence. We need a fence around our property I am going to show my husband your photo and see what he thinks. We have so much dead wood to use around the property that something like your wattle would be perfect!
