For those that are wanting to get out into the garden or yard, but haven’t been able to do so because it is still the middle of winter, here’s the karma I get for even posting about it.
I was stung by a bee today. Luckily, it was after I finished a 4 1/2 hour dig, weed, mulch, clean, move, episode in my garden. The thermometer that I take a reading on when I’m out there said 54 degrees F. Just as I was taking off my apron (I’m messy when I work), I felt something hit the back of my neck. I haven’t been stung by a bee since I was a kid. LOL I called DH home from the neighbors to take a look at it. I had the girls take a look at my neck while I was waiting for DH to get home (an EMT in his younger days), and they found the bee still on my shirt. I assume I’m not allergic, but you just never know. I took a Benadryl to help with the swelling. I’m a big baby…but will survive.
But, the best part is my garden is looking very well. I cleaned up three of my raised beds, dug up four paths between the beds, with “organic” on my mind, I laid down newspaper, followed by leaves that have been composting on top of some of my beds, followed by woods chips in one area (until I can get to the store for more mulch) and mulch in the others. I will win the battle of fighting the weeds and unwanted grass in my paths. I did get a Graham Thomas Bush Rose planted today.
I have a long ways to go before it will ever be the cottage garden I dream of…but with this sort of headstart, it will at least be worthy of having friends over for lunch, maybe even out in the garden.
Knitting: Put in a good hour this morning before hitting the garden…totally rewriting the pattern I started out with, but that’s ok, I am preferring how it is turning out.
Ouch! Was it a yellow jacket or honey bee that stung you? We’ve noticed a few of the former around already at our home. Hope you feel better.
Ooooh, Ouch! Sorry that happened…oh wait did you say you were planting ‘Roses’ already? Just kidding!! I hate getting stung by those little guys. It has been such a weird Winter so far! Right now I have a few of my windows open to take advantage of the strong winds and 55 degree afternoon! My Cats are totally freaking out every time a big gust of wind blows leaves and what not by their window. . .
BTW: Beautiful yellow rose!
